The 5 Senses of Samoset Resort

Immerse yourself into the experiences of a stay at Samoset Resort through each of the five senses.

SEE

The night sky at Samoset Resort.

The many, many skies of Samoset Resort. With gorgeous views from many of Samoset’s guest rooms, you’ll adore the vibrant sunrises and cotton-candy-colored sunsets as they move over the beautiful green golf course and azure blue waters of Penobscot Bay. When the sun goes down, lucky guests get to see a whole new show put on by the moon and stars. Stargazing in the direction of the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse can truly take your breath away on a clear night. When staying at Samoset Resort, you don’t have to walk more than a few steps to behold the sky’s glory in each direction, at any time of the day.

HEAR

A woman listens to the waves from a balcony at Samoset Resort.

There are many soothing sounds during a stay at Samoset. The large main lobby‘s soft background noise is perfect to set up shop for a little or a long time. You’ll find ample chairs, sofas, and seats to choose from, though we suggest settling down in a spot by the lobby’s impressive floor-to-ceiling, two-sided brick fireplace. The snapping and crackling sounds of an authentic fireplace could bring just about anyone some peace of mind. Outside, no matter the season, you’ll hear the true nature sounds of Coastal Maine, sometimes so soothing you’d think it’s coming from a white noise machine. From waves crashing along the rocky shores to birds singing, seagulls cawing, and even the occasional owl hooting, the natural ambiance of Samoset Resort’s blueprint provides tranquility from sunup to sundown.

FEEL

A couple strolls the Penobscot Bay Breakwater.

Enjoy the warm sun and salty breeze on your face as you stroll the winding paths surrounding Samoset Resort. Feel the granite slabs and storied steps beneath your feet when walking a mile to and from Maine’s favorite natural runway. Rockland’s Breakwater Lighthouse has a way of making you feel grounded and has long stood protecting the harbor. With it extending directly from the Samoset’s grounds it’s almost an essential must-do and must-see.

SMELL

The firepit at Samoset Resort.

What’s better than the smell of ooey, gooey, marshmallows roasting over a crackling bonfire? Every night through Samoset’s spring, summer, and fall season, the resort stokes a big, classic bonfire in the outdoor fire pit area and welcomes families to gather around to enjoy the warmth, company, and complimentary s’mores supplies. For a more intimate bonfire experience, guests also enjoy a patio seat outside of La Bella Vita, where you can enjoy the same ambiance with good friends and a nightcap or two from the bar.

TASTE

Two girls dine on pizza in La Bella Vita.

When you head down the stairs from the main lobby to La Bella Vita, it almost feels like you’re descending from Coastal Maine into a cozy corner of Italy. Here, you’ll be greeted by candle-lit tables, crackling fireplaces, leather couches for lounging, and friendly faces. Belly up to the bar of Enoteca Lounge and enjoy a craft cocktail while watching your pizza made to order. The skilled chef hard at work makes for great entertainment, tossing and saucing soft dough before throwing it into the brick oven to cook to crispy perfection. While each pizza offered on the menu is delicious in its own right, we recommend a classic we can’t get enough of: the Margherita Pizza. Crispy crust, soft and melty mozzarella cheese, and beautifully seasoned slices of tomato come together in creating a sublime bite that’ll have you going back for more and more.
